St. Martinville man arrested on second degree murder charge

St. Martinville – A 19-year-old St. Martinville man was arrested on a warrant and charged with second- degree murder after the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a shooting in the 1900 block of Cypress Island Highway in St. Martinville on Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff Becket Breaux said that at about 12:12 p.m., deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call at that location regarding a man who had been shot.

Deputies located a dead man with a gunshot wound to the head lying in the living room of the residence. The initial investigation revealed that the suspect, identified as Delian Mallery, 19, of St. Martinville, shot the victim for unknown reasons.

At the end of the investigation, a warrant of arrest was obtained, and Mallery was arrested and charged as follows: • 14:30.1-Second Degree Murder (1 count).

Following his arrest, Mallery was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charge and is currently being held without bond.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.
