Nola Borel was the guest speaker for the Beta Rho meeting on October 27. Borel presented a program on Art: painting and understanding for enjoyment. Chair for the evening was Arleen Oubre.

Borel explained to members she discovered her hidden talent during the pandemic when she tried her hand at painting and discovered her inner artist.

The pelican inspired her painting on wood which turned into unique gifts, which evolved into painting pillows and towels. Her southern characters are pelicans, hummingbirds, alligators, oysters, crawfish, frogs, brim fish, crabs, shrimp and the Louisiana state tree, the Magnolia.

Borel explained she paints the design, a photo is taken and converted into a digital image through the process of sublimation and the image is dyed onto the fabric allowing for color penetration. Polyester makes the process best keeping the vivid color on the fabric.

Her latest work is a group of wooden paintings with handles that can be flipped and converted into trays.

Members agreed Borel brings a blend of cajun and southern charm in all of her art. She showcases her heritage and is a Louisiana art ambassador in our area and beyond.
