Such a tragedy to learn that Shane Bailey has passed away. Only 43 years old. I am sure it’s just an awful coincidence but there seems to be a lot of deaths lately, at least in the Pierre Part area and around. And I’ve just read on a Facebook a message a medical emergency that happened recently was for an elderly person who had a fall.
As an elderly person myself, I am terribly conscious these days of my own stability. That’s one of the big reasons for starting Yoga. My balance is not good and I don’t want to fall and break something. I find myself really watching for curbs, and those yellow concrete things marking parking spots and low hanging branches and steps and backing up in my car. Still, I realize all I can do is be careful because accidents happen so quickly and so unexpectedly. In my lifetime I’ve had many, many falls, some pretty bad ones, but only once did I break anything. That was enough. The break healed but led to several other complications which would have been nothing ordinarily. They certainly took the “wind out of my sails” so to speak. I’d been feeling pretty strong until then.
I had a meeting in Pierre Part this morning scheduled to begin at 8:15 so I set my bedside alarm and my iphone alarm also and then woke up an hour earlier, and realized I’d forgotten to change the clock time so, of course, I was wide awake at 5 a.m. I do wish the powers that be would just leave the time the way it is right now and not change it ever!
A camper neighbor caught half a dozen beautiful blue crabs this past weekend. He had to leave so I don’ t know what happened to the crabs but the last ones he caught were really full! Belle River is low now so that may be why the crabs are back.
My Golden Raintree has shed its bracts all over the yard. I think it’s pretty but a friend commented on how messy my yard looked. My Bauhinia or Orchid Tree has grown enormously but no blossoms as yet.
Halloween was quiet here as always. With no sidewalks, no streetlights, kids don’t come on this road. It wouldn’t be safe anyway with the fast traffic and the houses are far apart. I did go to a local Pierre Part store last Friday to watch the Kindergarten kids get off a bus and go into the store. The costumes were hilarious. Some of the littlest kids looked a bit bewildered like they weren’t sure what all the fuss was about but the parents were sure having a wonderful time.
Speaking of the library, Mrs. Charlar Brew in St. Martinville sends over discarded, but very nice books for the Little Free Library at the Belle River Community Center. She also now is making sure I’m getting the Spice of the Month samples from LSU. I think I read that the parish is funding distribution of the SNAP program benefits since the government may not be anymore. Not sure, but the spices are popular. Thank you, Mrs. Brew. Speaking of Little Free Libraries, I’ve just discovered another one at the hospital in Napoleonville. These little libraries are becoming very popular.
