Arnaudville VFW Gumbo Cookoff is this weekend

Arnaudville — The Arnaudville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5153 is heating things up this fall as it prepares to host its First Annual Gumbo Cookoff on Saturday, November 15, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1020 VFW Drive in Arnaudville.

Local cooks, gumbo masters, and kitchen hobbyists are invited to put their culinary skills to the test in an all-day competition celebrating one of Acadiana’s most iconic dishes. Organizers say the event aims to bring the community together for a full day of food, fun, and friendly rivalry, all while supporting the ongoing mission of VFW Post 5153 to “foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts; to serve our veterans, the military and our communities; and to advocate on behalf of all veterans”.

“Acadiana is home to some of the best gumbo anywhere, and we’re excited to see who brings the heat. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just proud of your family’s recipe, this is your chance to show us what you’ve got,” said Larry Thomas, Post 5153 Commander.

Participants are encouraged to form teams, review the official competition rules, and submit their entry forms early. Cooking begins at 7 a.m., with judging and public tasting to follow. The event will also feature music, community fellowship, and family friendly activities. A silent auction, raffle, and 50/50 will also take place.

Winners will earn bragging rights and what Auxiliary President, Lorna Mills describes as “serious gumbo glory,” marking the start of what the Post expects will become a beloved annual tradition.

For more information or to register a team, community members may contact Larry Thomas at (337) 3530090 or Lorna Mills at (337) 298-4943. You can also access an entry form and complete set of rules on the Arnaudville Auxiliary Post 5153 Facebook page.
