The St. Martinville Garden Club hosted a special Memorial Leaf Dedication Ceremony, a biannual tradition, on October 25 at the Acadian Memorial.
This year’s ceremony honored the memory of Marianne Bienvenu and Marion Eastin, former members of the club.
In 2008, the club voted to pay lasting tribute to all deceased members through a meaningful memorial. The committee commissioned landscape architect Brenda L. Wieddekehr to design a unique sculpture - a copper wire and stainless steel tree inspired by the majestic Louisiana Live Oak. Dedicated in June 2009, the handcrafted memorial features stainless steel leaves, each engraved with the name of a Garden Club member who has passed away.
