Construction continuing along Poydras Highway
HEAVY EQUIPMENT – An excavator assists construction crews during work along La. 347 this past week near Parks. The state Department of Transportation and Development is continuing projects along La. 347, including a stretch of nearly three miles from La. 351 (Ruth Bridge Highway) to La. 328 (Rees Street/Bridge Street in Breaux Bridge) that is expected to conclude in August 2026. – Construction crews were busy this past week doing work alongside La. 347 near Parks as part of state roadwork projects in St. Martin Parish.

Alternating traffic lanes were enforced as the crew worked on drainage and road widening projects on La. 347, just past the Parks Bridge on the east side of Bayou Teche where Resweber Highway makes the curve to become Bridge Street Highway.

The state Department of Transportation and Development began an $11.96 million project along La. 347 from La. 350 (Bridge Street in Parks) to La. 351 (Ruth Bridge Highway in Breaux Bridge) in 2023, completing the bulk of the work earlier this year.

The project consisted of milling asphaltic concrete, pavement patching, asphalt overlay, drainage improvements and related work.

DOTD also began a $10M preservation project in St. Martin Parish along a 2.98-mile stretch of Poydras Highway (La. 347), from La. 351(Ruth Bridge Highway) to La. 328 (Rees Street) in May.

The project consists of milling, in-place base rehab, asphalt concrete overlay, drainage improvements and related work.

The work is estimated to take place Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.

Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures to allow utilities to be relocated for the project and to perform the work. Therefore, drivers should expect delays.

Emergency vehicles will have access through the area.

The road will be open to regular traffic with an 11-foot lane restriction on oversized loads passing through the work zone.

The project is estimated to be complete in August 2026.
