An Article of Faith

Dear President Trump: First of all, I would like to thank you for your incredible dedication to our nation. I voted for you each time you ran for president because I truly believe you love this country and have done tremendous things to save it. As a Christian conservative, I truly appreciate your fight for the unborn and your defending marriage and the family. You have had unprecedented successes stopping wars across the globe and deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. I suspect you have surrounded yourself with very qualified advisors who have given you great advice, both in your domestic as well as foreign decisions.

Yet Mr. President you said something the other day that really concerned me. This statement wasn’t a political one, but a spiritual one. I know you have Christian spiritual advisors and just wonder if they are advising you properly. Mr. President, it is way more important to get these spiritual matters right because politics like everything else is only temporary. Mr. President you said in discussing your push for peace with Russia and Ukraine, “I wanna try and get to heaven if possible. I’m hearing I’m not doing well. I am really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.” Sometime later when asked if the peace in Israel/ Gaza would help you get to heaven you lamented that you didn’t think anything would get you to heaven.

Mr. President, you need better spiritual advisers! Please allow me to share some biblical truth. Always remember that the “truth will set you free.” No amount of peace agreements, achievements, or successes can get you into heaven! Listen to what Paul writes to Titus in chapter 3, “But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Listen to what he told the Ephesians: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

President Trump, as you can see no one can earn salvation or a ticket to heaven. The only way you can receive it is as a gift! Consider the thieves who were crucified with Jesus. One of the thieves who had nothing good to offer simply made a statement to the other thief and then made a dying request to Jesus. The penitent thief rebuked the other thief for his insults to Jesus and then acknowledged his guilt. Then he simply looked at Jesus and asked, “Lord, would you remember me when you enter into your kingdom?” Jesus’s answer is the same to all who approach him in humility and repentance: “Today, you will be with me in paradise.” Mr. President: Jesus Saves!
