Baja St. Martin

Oh my, this cool weather is wonderful!!!!! The only bad part is putting on enough clothes to be comfortable in the chilly morning and shedding all that by noon when the temperature goes up. I can live with it.

We did have one night of moderate rain last week but it wasn’t enough. The grass greened up a bit. The bracts on my Golden Rain Tree are all over the yard. Wild vines are climbing up the trees by the river and ditch.

Pierre Part is all agog over a triple shooting in the north part of town. I have no absolute information but gossip—and there is a lot of that says a man shot someone and then shot the Assumption Parish Sheriff when he and officers showed up on scene. Apparently a deputy shot the man when he shot the sheriff (sounds like a song doesn’t it)? Now the State Police are involved because of the deputy shooting--probably just because of the whole thing.

I was in Morgan City when all this happened but I have to say it was amazing that the news of this incident, which happened at about 3:00 p.m. apparently, was all over by 6:00 p.m.

On another note, Chair Yoga is going well. Attendance is up and down but mostly 6 or 7 at each session. We’ve progressed to a program involving sitting mostly but standing also which is turning out to be a good one.

I, myself, have to be a little careful of some movements, those with head down where I get a bit dizzy. I am discovering that my balance is terrible. The DVD lady says to gently hold the back of the chair while doing some of the movements. I have a white knuckle death grip on mine. I am not going to fall! But the lessons are great and I feel so much better at the end of a class. I wish more people would get involved. Many tell me they can do the exercises at home and I know they could, but I also know that’s not what happens most of the time. I personally would make excuses for myself— haven’t the time right now or too busy! Getting together with a few people makes a difference. It’s easier to take a pill for an ache or pain and of course, that’s necessary some times. Still, if a few gentle exercises help you physically that seems a good thing to do. Now, you know I’ve just started Yoga and I know it’s not a cure-all but it seems to be helping me. So I’ll advertise a bit.

I did just discover a new Little Free Library box in Pierre Part which pleases me enormously. That makes four in Pierre Part now. This one was made by a young boy’s father a few years ago but the family just moved and the box is in a different place. It’s full of books right now. Two of the other ones were home built and beautiful. One was assembled from a commercial kit. This one was also made from a kit. Just the fact that someone cared enough to make and install a LFL box in their yard does my heart good. There are a lot of people who never go to a bricks-andmortar library but the Little Free Library boxes seem to be widely used. I think that not having to use a library card to deal with, or pay a book fine if you’re late somehow makes a difference.

Anyway, if you see a Little Free Library around your house or neighborhood, grab a book or two and leave one when you can.
