Farm to School institute will visit BB Elementary

Breaux Bridge — The LSU AgCenter’s Louisiana Farm to School Program will visit Breaux Bridge Elementary School on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon, as part of the Louisiana Farm to School Institute site visits.

The tour will highlight how Breaux Bridge Elementary is putting farm to school principles into practice through gardening, taste tests, and classroom learning that connect students to local agriculture and healthy food choices.

Earlier this year, school teams from across Louisiana, including Breaux Bridge Elementary, participated in a multi-day educational retreat to develop customized plans for expanding their farm to school initiatives. The Breaux Bridge team has since made steady progress toward a sustainable, schoolwide program.

As one of the schools selected for the 2025– 2026 Institute cohort, Breaux Bridge Elementary has integrated farm to school concepts into its daily curriculum and cafeteria practices. The tour will highlight how these efforts create hands-on learning opportunities for students while strengthening connections between the classroom, cafeteria, and community.

Breaux Bridge Elementary’s principal, Kasie Rossyion, has been instrumental in developing the farm to school program at the school. She credits this year’s growth to participation in the Louisiana Farm to School Institute.

The visit also highlights the partnerships that make these experiences possible. Immense Networks, a sponsor of the Louisiana Farm to School Institute, will participate in the tour. Grant Chenevert, director of client success and business development, will join LSU AgCenter representatives to recognize Breaux Bridge Elementary for completing its Quarter One evaluation and Community of Practice training.

The Louisiana Farm to School Institute is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture through the Louisiana Department of Education and supported by the LSU Agricultural Center’s Seeds to Success Program.
