October 15, 1975
The State Bond Commission approved an allocation of $664.963 to the Governor’s Atchafalaya Basin Commission for the purchase of approximately 1,000 acres of land near Catahoula for the development of an Atchafalaya Wilderness Center.
Newly elected officers of the St. Martinville Elementary 4-H Club included: Espinola Alexander, president; Celeste Savoy, vice-president; Alicia Gauthier, secretary; Steven Jones, treasurer; Rachel Robertson, program chairman; and Rosa Saddler, reporter.
Cheerleaders for the Parks Hornets football teams were Kelly Guidry, Millie Blanchard, Dana Blanchard, Lisa Picard, Angela Guidry, Renee Hebert, Kathy Blanchard and Lisa Hebert.
1975 cheerleaders for the Catahoula Charger football teams were Tressa Louviere, Evelyn Blanchard, Dawn Poche, Tinsle Robicheaux and Darla Landry.

The Village of Parks filed a preapplication with the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) seeking funds to upgrade its water system which serves over 2,000 rural customers between St. Martinville and Breaux Bridge.
Breaux Bridge High Science Club officers were Lesley Devillier, president; Suzanne Alexander, vice president; Becky Theriot, secretary; Gary Porciaux, treasurer; and Becky Ornsby, reporter.
Winning members of the Breaux Bridge High School’s Future Farmers of America show team at the Sugarcane Festival were Nick Latiolais, reserve champion, Chianona heifer; Chuck Patin, reserve champion, market lamb; Troy Latiolais, reserve champion, Simmental heifer; and Brett, LeBlanc, grand champion market lamb.
St. Martinville coeds chosen to serve on the 1985 Homecoming Court included Darlene Duplantis, Shelly Champagne, Winnifer Robertson and Cora Jacquet, seniors; Christine Fuselier and Michelle Alexander, juniors; Kelly Duplantis, Paula Theriot and Felicite Leon, sophomores; and Tiffany Blanchard, Tonya Theriot and Tawauna Jones, freshman.

Breaux Bridge High School coeds selected by senior football players to serve on the Homecoming court included Jeanne Robert, Stephanie Henry, Kelly Williams, Caddie Melancon, Sadie Huval, LaQuinta Joseph, Kelli Wiltz, LaSonya Celestine, Heather Zeringue, Edie Hebert, Lexi LeBlanc, Congetia Sylvester, Noni Miller, Cicely Ozen, Stephanie Boyer and Addie Zenon.
After several years declining enrollment, the number of students attending St. Martin Parish’s public schools appeared to have stabilized. The Oct. 1 headcount which must be submitted to state Department of Education officials, showed parish schools with a MFP (Minimum Foundation Program) enrollment of 8,452 students, down by only two from 1999. The total enrollment, including pre-K students, was 8,741. down by 16 from the 1999 figure of 8,757. Total parish enrollment had topped 9,000 at the start of the 1997 school year (9,033), but slipped to 8,809 in 1998 and 8,757 in 1999. The number of children recorded as being home schooled also remained stable, increasing by two, from 94 in 1999 to 96 in 2000.
