50 Years Ago October 8, 1975

Three St. Martin Parish farms winners in the Sugar Cane High Yield Awards Program sponsored by the LSU Cooperative Extension Service and the American Sugar Cane League were the Estate of Elmore Lasseigne, St. Martinville, with a 1974 crop average of 30.9 standard tons per acre on 749 acres: Adam and Bernard Laviolette, St. Martinville, 31 tons per acre on 159.5 acres: and Louis and Claude Comb, Breaux Bridge, with 29.5 tons per acre on 364 acres.

Michael Comb of Breaux Bridge, was the 1975 winner in the annual state 4-H Sugar Cane Production Program on the basis of his 1974 crop, which produced 40.89 standard tons per acre. His project involved one acre of L. 65-69 cane..

Boy Scout 1 Troop 174 of Breaux Bridge received the Award of Merit at the Fall Camporee held at Camp Thistlewaite. Troop members included Joey LeBlanc, Dwain Guidry, Marty Melancon, Tannie Guidry, Calvin Dugas, Shane LeBlanc, Jody Courville, Scotty Latiolais, Donald Ledet, Timmie Dumatrait, Alvin Lewis, Robert Ledet and Mike Ledet. Troop 174 was also named 1975 Fall Camporee Football Champs.

Members of the 1975 Homecoming Court at St. Martinville Senior High included Myra Doucet, Madlyn St. Julien, Bridget Dupuis, Kim Nassans, Margaret Batiste, Renee Boudreaux, Darlena Charles, Susan Jones, Alicia Bienvenu and Brenda Capritto.

40 Years Ago October 9, 1985

Cecilia High coed Molli Courville was crowned 1985 Homecoming Queen during pre-game ceremonies Naomi Angelle was chosen first maid, and Vanessa Jones was named second maid.

Newly-elected officers of the Cecilia High School 4-H Club were Melissa Guilbeau, president; Pamela Gordon, vice preident; Patrice Taylor, secretary- treasurer; Michelle Guilbeau, reporter; Denise Broussard and Dotty Comeaux, program committee members; Herman Hardy, pledge leader; Kim Mason and Crystal Guidry, activity committee members; and Bryan Theriot and Toby Allemond, activity committee members.

Twelve students at Breaux Bridge High School were honored by the St. Martin School Board for finishing the 1984-85 school year with a perfect 4.0 average and were designated as members of the “St. Martin Parish A-Team’. They were, Amy Joiner, Stacy Latiolais, Sonya Dupuis, Michelle Guidry, Michele Peltier, Dierdre Dupuis, Colleen Dupuis, Leslie Devillier, Robert Hollier, Chuck Savoy, Jason perrodin, and Jamie Smith.

Cecilia High School Art Club elected officers for the 1985-86 school sessionwere Carolyn Carron, president; Patricia Broussard, vice president; Gretta Zerangue, secretary; Melissa Guilbeau, assistant secretary; Leslie Dohman, reporter; Linda Malbrough, treasurer; Darla Arnaud, committee chairman; Tricia Knott, assistant reporter; and Monita Joseph, parliamentarian.

Breaux Bridge St. Martin Parish’s “Teachers of the Year” were honored during a meeting of the school board. The annual Teacher of the Year presentations were part of the Louisiana TOTY awards program, modeled after a similar national program. The event is designed to honor outstanding elementary, middle and high school teachers. The 2000-2001 honorees were Claire Adele Huval of Cecilia Primary, elementary level; Diane Huval of Cecilia Jr. High, junior high level; and Paget K. Guidry of St. Martinville Sr. High, high school level.

September 30, 2015

Cayli Noel was crowned 2015 Homecoming Queen at Cecilia High School during halftime ceremonies of the Bulldog-Abbeville football game. Heather Grogan was nameed first maid; and Erin Blanchard was named 2nd maid.

The Catahoula Elementary Cheerleaders for 2015 included Samantha Latiolais, Brianne LeBlanc, Charley Latiolais, Morgan Boudreaux, Genevieve Blanchard, Jenna Courville, Chloe Daspit, Ana Alexandrescu, Leryn Quintana and Kora Poirier.
