Zoning, drainage discussed during BB Council meeting

– The Breaux Bridge City Council covered several items during its September meeting, with the major discussions centered on zoning changes and a drainage agreement with the St. Martin Parish Government.

Before turning to those topics, Kelli Cantu of Chez Hope addressed the council, speaking on domestic abuse and violence. She shared information and resources available to community members facing such challenges.

Mayor Rickey Calais presented the city’s August financial report, noting revenues of $616,966. “It was a little below last year’s collections for August but it is above what was budgeted by $21,000,” Calais said.

Among other actions: The council voted to certify completion of the sidewalk project along Cecile Avenue.

Agreements were approved for clearing and maintaining two drainage laterals, one along Gloria Drive and another near the Belle Terre Subdivision.

An ordinance was introduced to rezone lots along Grand Pointe Avenue (between Poydras Street and Doyle Melancon Road) to the C-1 Zoning District.

Another ordinance was introduced to rezone properties along Sidney Drive, Wild Cherry Lane, Suzie Drive, and Hebert Lane to R-4 zoning.

The council agreed to accept bids on city property at 227 Refinery Street, including a house on the lot that must be relocated as part of the sale. Bids will be accepted until the October council meeting.

With no further business, the council adjourned until its October session.
