– The September meeting of the Henderson Town Council was brief, with the public portion lasting about 20 minutes. The majority of the time was spent in executive session, where the council met for roughly 25 minutes to discuss the town’s ongoing issues with the Municipal Police Employees Retirement System (MPERS).

Mayor Sherbin Collet explained that the closed session allowed attorney Jerry Mallet to update the council on the status of the city’s legal dealings with the system.

The other key matter addressed was the rehiring of David Savoy to the Henderson Police Department.

“We’re short-handed by two right now, and he is POST Certified and ready to work,” said Mayor Collet. “He’s a good worker, and we desperately need him. The original issue centered on MPERS, which is why he left in the first place.”

Aside from those items, the meeting was relatively uneventful. Departmental reports were brief. Collet noted that the town park’s field remains closed as the town waits for rainfall to determine where repairs to the playing surface are necessary.

The council also approved the town’s monthly financial statements. With no further business on the agenda, the meeting adjourned until October.
