Unrestrained motorist in SM Parish dies in crash

Breaux Bridge – A 60year old Scott man died in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 31 near Oleste Tauzin Road in St. Martin Parish on Friday.

Just before 5 p.m. on September 12, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash. The crash claimed the life of 60-year-old Alex James of Scott.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by James, was traveling south on LA 31. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet traveled off the roadway to the right while in a curve.

As James attempted to regain control, he overcorrected, causing the Chevrolet to leave the roadway again, strike a building, and overturn.

Crash

James, who was not restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Routine toxicology samples were collected for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers said that motorists should always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
