Lafayette – The three St. Martin Parish high school football teams competed in the 73rd Annual Kiwanis Jamboree on Thursday and Friday at Comeaux High School in Lafayette.
St. Martinville Senior High fell to Teurlings Catholic 21-3 on Thursday with a blocked punt and an interception return for a touchdown giving the Rebels the edge.
The blocked punt gave TCHS the ball at the SMSH 24 and quarterback Alex Munoz threw to Matthew Cantrell for a 10-yard TD to capitalize.
SMSH got a Luke Bienvenu field goal before halftime to make it a 7-3 game.
Teurlings defensive back Luke Hebert, a St. Martinville native, returned a pass interception 40 yards in the second half to set up a 19-yard touchdown run by Eli Deboisblanc. Hebert had two interceptions on the night.
On Friday, Lafayette claimed a 16-0 win over Breaux Bridge with senior running back Xzaban Williams rushing for 129 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.
Breaux Bridge running back Baylon Champagne ran for 56 yards on eight carries, including six runs for 47 yard in the second half.
St. Thomas More beat Cecilia 24-7 on Friday in the jamboree behind Virginia Tech commit Cole Bergeron, who went 12-for-19 for 155 yards against the Bulldogs with TD passes to Blake Caillet in the first half and two to Christian Breaux in the second half.
Cecilia running back Braylon Calais rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and had three catches for 63 yards on the evening.
