Road resurfacing work in St. Martin and Iberia Parishes continues on a stretch of La. 31 from 0.9 miles south of the roundabout at La. 31 and La. 92-1 (Smede Highway) to E. St. Peter Street (La. 182) in New Iberia as workers get into the bulk of their work.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development) announced the project earlier this year and construction began on March 17.
The $8.4 million project is funded completely with state funds and will include milling asphalt pavement, pavement patching, asphalt concrete overlay, guardrail, striping, and related work.
Work is estimated to take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
Alternating lane closures are ongoing.
The road will be open to regular traffic with a 12-foot wide maximum lane restriction on oversized loads passing through the work zone. Emergency vehicles will have access to the area but may encounter delays.
The project is estimated for completion by April 2026.
DOTD said it appreciates the public’s patience and reminds motorists to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
