The Knights of Peter Claver at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church hosted their First Annual Bowties-4-Brothers Youth Enrichment Event on August 9.
The purpose of Bowties- 4-Brothers is to inspire, uplift, and equip young men with the tools to present themselves confidently and professionally. Whether attending church services, weddings, funerals, proms, or other formal gatherings, the ability to properly tie a necktie or bowtie is a valuable life skill. This event not only introduced participants to various knot-tying techniques but also incorporated meaningful Bible study sessions. Through programs like this, the Knights of Council 242 strive to encourage professional conduct among youth while strengthening both the Catholic Church and the surrounding community.
The event welcomed boys and young men between the ages of 6 and 19. With the guidance of Knights and dedicated volunteers from St. Landry and Lafayette Parishes, participants gained hands-on experience in tying ties. Distinguished guests included Lafayette School Board member Josh Edmunds; Greg Campbell, Principal of Opelousas Senior High; Taron Lewis, Academic Counselor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; and Deacon Carlton Lee Sr.
Bible study was led by Deacon Carlton Lee Sr. and Father Greg Cormier, who engaged the young men in faithbased discussions. Remarkably, within just 35 minutes, most participants had already mastered tying their neckties. Music, encouragement, and personal demonstrations served as strong motivators, helping the youth walk away with both new skills and a sense of accomplishment.
