Breaux Bridge – The Breaux Bridge Board of Aldermen’s August gathering proved to be both brief and eventful, consisting of not one but two consecutive meetings. Following the City Council’s regular session, the Board of Adjustment convened immediately after to address a separate matter.
During the City Council meeting, Mayor Ricky Calais presented the first financial report of the new fiscal year, noting a strong start. July sales tax collections totaled $61,677, exceeding budgeted expectations.
“That gives us a good start to the new fiscal year,” Calais said.
Council members then turned their attention to a proposed amendment to the city’s Code of Ordinances. The change would rezone lots along Suzie Drive, Ruby Drive, Sidney Drive, and part of Wild Cherry Lane from R-1 to R-4, opening the door for mobile homes to be placed on those properties.
After wrapping up city business, the Council adjourned, and the Board of Adjustment immediately convened to hear concerns related to the proposed RaceTrac Truck Stop near the I-10 exit. However, the proceedings took a turn when one of the property owner’s attorney raised questions about a potential conflict of interest involving a board member’s appointment.
The board member ultimately recused himself, leaving the panel without proper representation. As a result, the Board voted to adjourn with no action taken on the matter.
