50 Years Ago August 27, 1975
U.S. Postal Service officials were in St. Martinville to officially accept the new post office building due to open in four to six weeks.
As the closing of the historic old post office building in St. Martinville moved closer and closer, Mayor Earl ‘Mac’ Willis intensified local efforts to obtain the building for the city.
Donna Randazzo of St. Martinville was crowned the new Miss St. Martin at the annual contest. Chosen as first maid was Barbara Broussard of Breaux Bridge; and Christine Guidry, also of Breaux Bridge, was selected second maid.
St Martin Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Sanford Langlinais became president of the Louisiana Juvenile Officers Association Clarence Duchamp presented Ivy Perioux with of the St. Martinville Knight of the Year award for 1974-75.
40 Years Ago August 28, 1985
Five St. Martin Parish municipalities received a combined total of $71,590 in state tobacco tax rebates for the quarter ended June 30. The breakdown for each of the parish municipalities shows that rebates in the following amounts were paid: St. Martinville ($84,868); Arnaudville ($17,891); Breaux Bridge ($67,065); Henderson ($16,622); and Parks ($5,808).
The school board awarded a contract for the construction of a parish livestock exhibition facility to be located on the Breaux Bridge High School campus to Dugas Construction Co. of Parks.
Terry Huval and Jambalaya, a Cajun band were among the finalists in the Le Bal de Maisan Cajun Band Contest for the second consecutive year. Band members are Terry Huval of Breaux Bridge, lead vocalist and bass guitarist; Tony Huval, Breaux Bridge, vocalist and drummer; Bobby Dumatrait, Breaux Bridge, vocalist and guitarist; Jimmy Breaux, Breaux Bridge, Cajun accordianist; Ken David, Church Point, vocalist and fiddler; and Marc “de Basile” Meier of Basile, on the triangle.

Breaux Bridge native and Teurlings Catholic High graduate Jake Delhomme survived the NFL’s final cut to land spot on the New Orleans Saints regular season roster.
The Fr. Dion Council of the Catahoula Knights of Columbus recently awarded scholarships to local youths Wendy LeVasseur, Jamie Thibodeaux, Lindsey Poché and Crystal Poché.
Two Labrador retrievers owned by Duck Dupuis of Butte LaRose placed first in field trials held at the Gueydan Duck Festival. Gus was champ in the seasonal class while Lottie took first place in the finished class. The dogs were trained and handled by Herb Angelle.

Parishioners celebrated the 61st anniversary of St. Louis Mission Chapel in Parks as well as the upcoming Feast Day of the Patron Saint of the Chapel St. Louis, King of France. Portraying the king and queen at the celebration activities were Edward and Marie Edna Wiltz, one of the rrs couples to be married in the Chapel.
