Breaux Bridge - A new helipad, made possible by St. Martin Parish Hospital Service District No. 2 (HSD #2), in partnership with Acadian Ambulance Service, was dedicated to the late Richard Zuschlag, Acadian Ambulance founder, on August 13 at Ochsner St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge.
The $250,000 project was funded through contributions from Hospital Service District #2, and Acadian Ambulance Service.
The dedication was special for the Zuschlag family. When Ochsner St. Martin Hospital was Gary Memorial, Zuschlag met his future wife, Elaine, at the hospital while she was working as a nurse. The two married within a year of meeting. The Zuschlag family attended the dedication honoring that special memory and Richard Zuschlag’s many contributions to the community and beyond.
In addition to those from the Zuschlag family, Acadian Ambulance Service team members, HSD #2 board members, and representatives from Ochsner St. Martin Hospital and Ochsner Lafayette General were in attendance.
The new helipad improves both patient and staff safety by allowing for private, direct transfers through the back of the emergency department at Ochsner St. Martin Hospital, increasing efficiency in critical moments.
