New Orleans – Ali Romero Angelle, a dedicated fourth-grade teacher at Teche Elementary in St. Martin Parish, has been named the 2026 Louisiana State Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Angelle received the honor at the 19th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala, hosted by the Louisiana Department of Education in partnership with Dream Teachers. The prestigious event took place at The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, celebrating educators who demonstrate outstanding achievements in their profession and dedication to student success.

Angelle, who teaches English and Social Studies, was first selected as Teacher of the Year at both Teche Elementary and at the district level before being chosen as one of 24 statewide semifinalists. From this group, Angelle emerged as the state’s top elementary teacher.

With seven years of experience in the classroom, Angelle has become known for her commitment to her students and her passion for education. Her approach to teaching emphasizes fostering a supportive and inspiring learning environment where students can achieve their highest potential.

The Educator Excellence Awards Gala also recognized outstanding teachers and leaders in other divisions, including Principal of the Year, Early Childhood Teacher and Leader of the Year, and New Teacher of the Year. These honors highlight the exceptional educators making significant contributions to Louisiana’s schools and communities.

According to the Louisiana Department of Education, Teacher and Principal of the Year finalists and semifinalists are all educators making “exceptional gains with students” and whose commitment exemplifies excellence in teaching.
