Joey Bonin of St. Martinville broke the nonstop swimming record at Camp Thistelwaite Boy Scout Camp near Washington. Joey swam seven miles in six hours. The old record was six miles and one lap in six hours, ten minutes.
Cash sales of Series E and H Savings Bonds in St. Martin Parish during June amounted to $47,769 Parish Chairman V. J. Theriot reported. The total was 73% of the parish goal for 1975. June Savings Bonds sales for the state a- mounted to $5,625,421.
Parks Mavor Earl Guidroz was notified by the Louisiana Congressional delegation of the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s approval of a $45.000 Community Development Block Grant to finance improvements to the Parks water svstem.
Leah Barron of Breaux Bridge was selected Governor of Pelican Girls State in Baton Rouge.
40 Years Ago August 14, 1985
Jimmy Hebert, a senior at Breaux Bridge High School, attended Pelican Boys State Baton Rouge. Hebert was one of four students from Breaux Bridge chosen to attend the summer conference, with selection was based on scholastic achievement.
The cheerleader squad at Cecilia High School captured a number of group and individual honors, including the blue ribbon for overall excellence, at the International Cheerleader Foundation summer clinic held at Nicholls University in Thibodaux. Bulldog cheerleaders included Vanessa James, Kellie Guidry, Carlene Hebert, Naomi Angelle, Tanya Carron , Milli Courville (head); Crystal Guidry, Keri Guidry, Denise Williams, Karen Trahan, Charee LeBlanc and Ruthie Frederick.

Eight year-old Hunter Hayes, accordion player/ singer from Breaux Bridge, was greeted by President Bill Clinton at the Mayflower Hotel in Wahsington D.C., as Hunter and his band - Louisiana H.O.T. were the guest entertainers for Congressman Richard Gephardt.
A BAYSI 7-year-old coach pitch team completed a successful season with a third place finish in the USSA World Series, competing against teams from Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana. Team members were Britt Patin, Jared Guidry, Jevin Huval, Aaron Guidry, Josh Champagne, Shane Young, Taylor Newland, Rocky McGee, Chaz Hebert, Nicholas Syrie, Alex Boudreaux and Kip Albarado. Coaches were Scotty Huval, Frankie Newland, Kelly Hebert and Shane Albarado. The highlight of the tourney was a 5-1 win over the defending champs and previously unbeaten Stingrays of Houston, Texas.

TheCity of Breaux Bridge water department was recognized for its water conservation efforts by the Louisiana Rural Water Association. Designed by city engineer Chris Richard of Domingue, Szabo and Associates, the system ended the waste of 3.6 million gallons of treated water per year.
Ned Berard of Henderson was honored by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for his 35 years of service as a high school sports official. Presenting the award was Keith Anderson, LHSAA director of officials.
