At least some of Belle River was without communication July 2 after a truck somehow knocked down at least 3 or 4 power Poles right in front of Ochsner Hospital in Morgan City. There wasn’t much about it on the computer other than a picture of a big truck with wires draped all over and poles lying everywhere. No info on how it happened, what truck did the deed, what happened to the driver and/or truck, how it happened. The one photo I’ve seen on my computer is accompanied by quite a few, shall we say, pithy comments! One person said, “How the ***** could a truck knock down four poles at once?” Good question!
My iphone works but my neighbor has a flip phone which just tells him no network service. Another neighbor has an iphone which seems to be working like mine. Not at all sure how this phone stuff works. I did hear that much of Morgan City is without communication but everybody seems to have power.
Like I say, I really don’t know much but I would guess since the accident happened practically in the hospital itself, the repairs would be pretty swift. The little news I did get says the highway is blocked off so you may be stuck in Morgan City.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, it’s hot! The weeds in my flower beds are taking over. I’ve lost a few things. But not those pesky black grasshoppers— the Lubber ones. They are chomping on my Janet Craig. It must be mating season because I seem to find two together. I realize every creature has a place on earth but I sure don’t know what these creatures are good for.
It’s been interesting to hear the comments made by people who have generators that didn’t work the last time we had a power failure here just a few days ago. The failure was for a few hours and I haven’t heard what the problem was, but some friends told me they were really disgusted when their expensive generator didn’t come on when the power failed. Or the generator came on but not for long. Others who had the same problem and who obviously knew the fuel supplier personally spoke of how it made sense to not run your dryer and maybe shut off some things not needed until the power came back on. From my point of view (and I don’t have this problem) it seemed that if you pay maybe $10,000 for a generator you’d want it to work without limitations and the fact that the natural gas supply wasn’t adequate should not be your problem. I guess I’m just being too critical.
I don’t know the quantity of power generators in Pierre Part or Belle River but I know it’s a lot more than maybe a fuel supplier expected. And I’m continually surprised at how many houses I see here with solar panels on the roofs. If I didn’t have so many trees around my house, I’d go solar also.
I’m adding a little this morning and haven’t heard a thing about the pole situation in Morgan City. I did call a friend who lives there and she didn’t know a thing about it at all.
It looks like another hot day ahead. Right now it’s quiet on Belle River. I expect boat traffic will increase in the next day or two. Someone across the river has been shooting off fireworks for two nights—quiet ones—no loud bangs just a shower of lights. My dog stands at the front door and barks at every display so it will be a noisy weekend probably.
Hope everyone had a Happy July 4th!
