New Iberia man arrested in connection with June 23 robbery

St. Martinville – A 71-year-old New Iberia man was arrested on Monday in connection with an early-morning robbery, St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux said in a press release.

Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at about 12:45 a.m. on June 23 regarding a robbery at a convenience store located on the 1300 block of Evangeline Thruway.

Deputies learned after arriving at the store that a man entered the store and threatened the cashier by implying he had a gun and then demanded all of the money in the cash register.

After receiving the money, the man fled the area in his vehicle, deputies reported. An investigation was initiated, and the suspect was identified as Nicholas Anthony, 71, of New Iberia.

He was subsequently located and arrested on unrelated charges by the Iberia Sheriff’s Office on June 23.

On the morning, of June 27, Anthony was transported to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center where he was booked on the following charge:

• LA. R.S.-14:64.1 First Degree Robbery (1 count).
