The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that construction is underway on a $6.9M project to replace the La. 94 Bridge over the Vermilion River.
Seated at the parish lines, the La. 94 Vermilion River Bridge serves as a well traveled thoroughfare connecting Lafayette and St. Martin parishes.
The project consists of clearing and grubbing, removal of bridge, grading, drainage structures, asphalt concrete roadway, precast concrete piles, slab span bridge, and related work.
Work is estimated to take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.
The road will be open to regular traffic. However, restrictions may be in place when traffic is switched to the detour bridge.
Emergency vehicles will have access to this area but may encounter delays.
Since construction began in February 2025, the contractor has worked to drive H-beam piles and install bridge deck slab spans for the detour bridge, as well as drive test piles for the permanent structure.
Currently the contractor is installing drainage structures, working to drive the bulkhead wall on the east side of the bridge, and is preparing the route for the temporary detour road.

Bridge
The 152 foot concrete deck girder bridge was built in 1954. Average daily traffic (ADT) is 18,686 vehicles.
This project is estimated for completion in fall 2026.
Merrick LLC is the contractor.
