Baja St. Martin
The water in the spillway continues to fall very, very slowly. All launch ramps are usable now but the most northerly is the most popular. You can access the walkways to the floating dock if you don’t mind steppin g in a little mud.
Belle River , on the other hand, seems to have risen a little but that might be due to the south wind. The water is as still as glass. My Purple Martins are busy with their kids whom I think have not fledged yet. When that happens the parents are really vocal and usually a baby lands in the yard where unfortunately, my cat is waiting.
At least two new sites along Hwy. 997 or Levee Hwy between my house and the boat landing are being readied for some development. A road from the highway to Belle River has been made—still dirt==which will give someone a place for a camp.
And a little closer to the landing an area along the highway has been cleared and quite a bit of dirt has been spread so I assume another campsite is coming.
The person who has all the trash is not far from this second site. I don’t know who that is and no matter whom I ask the answer is always pretty vague. The mounds of trash seem to grow and shrink— sometimes there is a decrepit vehicle, sometimes a pile of wood. I had figured the owner would be selling the junk but it never seems to diminish nor grow a whole lot. Maybe he just likes junk!
We’ve been getting sporadic rain here— Yesterday it rained quite hard in the early morning, then the sun came out and later it rained again. I think a similar situation is forecast for today.
I’ve been watching more TV than normal lately so I’ve heard a lot about the situation in Los Angeles. Governor Newsome was really outspoken in his remarks about Trump who hasn’t been too polite with his comments either. I don’t know what I think for sure, except I do feel all these guys are acting like childish kids with their threats and name calling. My middle school students were more polite even when they didn’t like one another.
I just received a subpoena for jury duty but I filled out an accompanying paper which said to ask to be exempt if you were over 70. So I did that right away. I have been called for jury duty twice before, many years ago, and drove all the way to St. Martinville to just sit all day on a hard wooden bench and was never called. I think I read a whole paper back book while I was sitting. I do remember that most of the people who were called up by a judge or lawyer or somebody were excused when they said they couldn’t read nor write. I was actually looking forward to saying “I can read and write”, but was never asked. It’s a long drive over there.
A squirrel just cannoned off the wires over my house, onto my steep roof and then slid down and fell onto the ground. The dog, cat and I all jumped at the racket . Tin roofs can be noisy but I like them.
The new ‘camp’ just before Stephensville is huge. The concrete pillars are the ground floor, then it looks like at lest two floors, maybe more, on top of that. This is going to be a whopper of a camp!
Here comes the rain. Glad my yard was mowed yesterday. Cooler then.
