An Arbor Day celebration was held on May 22 at Magnolia Park in St. Martinville. The St. Martinville Garden Club and the City of St. Martinville worked together to organize the event.

Teddy Bear Magnolia trees and a Natchez Crêpe Myrtle tree were selected by the garden club. City workers assisted in planting the trees near the sand volleyball court. Mayor Jason Willis offered an Arbor Day proclamation, Fr. Jason Vidrine blessed the newly planted trees and Danielle Fontenette, director of culture, recreation and tourism, recited a poem in honor of the special day.

Arbor day was established in Nebraska in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton to promote tree plantings and encourage communities to work together to offer information on the benefits of trees and their contribution to the environment.
