Salvaging Flooring – A crew from Gordon’s Construction & Landfill Inc. began salvaging the oak center-match flooring from the old St. Martinville High School gym in June 1995 as the first phase of the razing of the school on Port Street. Oak, maple and birch flooring from the school, along with cypress timber from the oldest section of the main building (constructed in 1929) was salvaged, along with the ornamental stone work along the roofline. The thousands of bricks in the school were hauled away for riprap

and road beds. (From the Teche News files) If you have any old pictures (20 years or more) of general interest that you would like to share with our readers, please contact us at 394-6232 or 332-3562, drop them off at our office in St. Martinville or e-mail to [email protected].
