Senior shortstop Ellis Stewart of Cecilia was named the District 5-4A baseball MVP and Breaux Bridge coach Gabe Cormier was named Coach of the Year in voting by the district coaches at a postseason meeting.
Stewart batted .520 in league play to lead the Bulldogs to a 17-14 overall record and a 6-2 mark in district. Cecilia was 19th in the Division II Non-Select playoff power rankings and a first-round playoff spot.
Breaux Bridge won the District 5-4A title under Cormier, finishing 20-12 and 7-1 in the regular season. The Tigers were 15th in the power rankings and advanced to the second round before bowing out to No. 2 seed and eventual state champion North DeSoto.
Six Breaux Bridge players earned firstteam All-District honors and five Cecilia players also were named to the first team.
Breaux Bridge junior pitcher Caynon Ardoin was a first-team selection with a 3-1 record in district and a 2.68 earned run average.
Cecilia senior Blake Gautreaux, who was 3-1 with a 2.291 ERA in district, also was a firstteam pick.
Joining Stewart in the first-team infield were three BBHS players, sophomore first baseman Bryce Melancon (.526 average), senior second baseman Cullen Laseter (.300) and sophomore third baseman Evan Theriot (.286).
Cecilia junior Collin Dore (.400) earned firstteam honors at catcher.
Two of the three outfield spots on the first team went to St. Martin Parish players with Breaux Bridge senior Peyton Gonzalez (.320) and Cecilia freshman Hudson Frederick (.590) honored.
Breaux Bridge junior Sam Armentor (.250) and Cecilia junior Colton Faulk (.286) were named to the first team as utility players.
Second-team honors for Breaux Bridge included senior pitcher Kaleb Theriot, freshman third baseman Charlie Frederick, junior catcher Benjamin Ellender (.389), senior utility player Kamin Babin (.455) and sophomore utility player Kyson Rebert (.333).
Cecilia second-team honors went to senior pitcher Ben Theriot, junior pitcher Jacob Briscoe (2-0 in district), senior outfielder Brayden LeCoq, junior utility player Jace Taylor and sophomore utility player Hadin Hohle.
