The Parks Village Council held its May meeting with a relatively light agenda. The only items requiring a vote were two resolutions related to the upcoming budget.
The first resolution introduced an ordinance to amend the 2024-25 budget, updating it to reflect the actual revenues and expenditures from the current fiscal year. The second resolution presented the proposed budget for 2025-2026, which is set to take effect on July 1.
“If you look at the numbers, you’ll see they are basically the same as last fiscal year,” said Mayor Kevin Kately. “All we’re doing is introducing the 25-26 budget this month so you can review it, and then we’ll vote on it at the June meeting.”
Mayor Kately noted that the police department’s budget was adjusted to accommodate a new employee, while the parks budget was reduced since planned renovations have already been completed.
In other news, Mayor Kately informed the council that progress is being made on the new library. He and St. Martin Parish President Pete Delcambre recently met to finalize plans, and only the paperwork remains before construction can begin.
Additionally, the mayor announced that installation of new water meters is scheduled to begin in July. The first phase will cover the area from Levert Road to the 911 center, encompassing approximately 1,000 meters.
“That’s the perfect number to start with,” Kately said.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting-which lasted about 20 minutes-was adjourned. The council will reconvene in June.
