St. Martinville – A St. Martinville man was indicted for murder by a Grand Jury in the 16th Judicial District Court, District Attorney Michael Haik III said in a press release.
The Grand Jury met in St. Martin Parish and returned indictments against Zakyric Gardner, 22, of St. Martinville, for:
• Second Degree Murder in connection with the death of Deiondre Benjamin.
Gardner was arrested in October in Texas on a warrant from the St. Martinville Police Department following a shooting just before the start of St. Martinville Senior High School’s homecoming football game.
Gardner was arrested after the vehicle he was in was stopped near Beaumont, Texas.
The St. Martinville Police Department had sent out a bulletin to law enforcement organizations along the I-10 corridor. The vehicle’s description and license plate were included in the bulletin, along with an arrest warrant for Gardner.
