Baton Rouge – Brent Gordon Jr. of Cecilia High and was second in another event, and Jaboryan John of Breaux Bridge won one event and placed third in another at the LHSAA Class 4A Outdoor Track & Field State Meet on Saturday at LSU.
London Thi of Cecilia won the girls’ discus title and also competed in two other events.
St. Martin Parish athletes earned nine podium appearances at the state meet by finishing in the top three in their events, including two cases where schools had two topthree finishes in an event.
Gordon won the boys’ Class 4A 300-meter hurdles in 39.12 seconds and was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.96 seconds, and ran legs on two relays for the Bulldogs. Teammate Braylon Calais was third in the 110 hurdles in 15.02 seconds. Thi won the 4A girls’ discus with a throw of 127 feet, 7 inches. Teammate Layla McGee was third at 105 feet.
Thi also placed sixth in the shot put at 34 feet, 4 3/4 inches. Cecilia’s Cassi Martin was fifth in the shot put at 35-4 1/2. Both efforts were personal records.
Thi finished eighth in the javelin at 90 feet, 4 inches.
Cecilia competed in three of the four boys’ 4A relays.
Lee Landry, Calais, Kaegan LeBlanc and Ellis Stewart finished second in the 4x400 in 3:26.55.
Dakelian Chevalier, Gordon, Calais and Stewart were fourth in the 4x200 in 1:29.32.
Shaquille Sanders, Gordon, Calais and Stewart were seventh in the 4x100 in 43.17 seconds.
Jermaine Davis was sixth in the long jump at 21 feet, 4 inches and eighth in the triple jump at 42-9 for the Bulldogs.
John won the Class 4A boys’ 400 in 48.15 seconds, a personal record, and was third in the 200-meter dash in 21.71 seconds.
Kaleb Theriot of Breaux Bridge was third in the 4A boys’ javelin at 169 feet, 2 inches, setting a personal record.
Christian Camacho set a personal record in the 1,600 meter race finishing seventh in 4:42.78.
The Breaux Bridge boys’ 4x400 relay team of John, Ja’Kyron Wallace, Ethan Comb and Camacho placed seventh in 3:49.23.
Josiah Armentor finished ninth in the boys’ pole vault for BBHS at 10 feet, 11 3/4 inches.
