Torrential rain leads to flash flooding in SMP

– Torrential rains on Thursday in Acadiana led to flash flooding in some parts of St. Martin Parish.

Some 5.35 inches of rain was reported for Thursday at Cade Farm; 3.69 inches was reported in Breaux Bridge; and 6-plus inches were reported in Youngsville and Broussard with 6.80 inches in New Iberia.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office reported several roadways with water covering them or other obstructions during a thunderstorm that led to flash flood warnings for St. Martin, Lafayette and Iberia parishes, among other areas, early Thursday morning.

Most of the roads were reported open again by early afternoon though some were not reported open again until Friday morning.

Roads reported as closed at some point due to water on the roadway/ high water/flooding, but since reopened, included:

• Forum Drive;

• Cecilia Senior High School Highway between the 2300 block and Four Corners;

• Old Spanish Trail (1500 block);

• Fontelieu Road at Duchamp; • Old Spanish Trail (1300 block);

• LA 182 at Duchamp;

• Petroleum Parkway at Smede Highway;

• Captain Cade Road at Iberia Parish Line;

• Lady of the Lake and LA 182;

• Hughes Road;

• LA 182 from LA 96 (Terrace Highway) to LA 92-1 (Captain Cade Road).

Flooding

Roadways reported closed due to fallen trees or trees blocking the roadway, but since reopened, include:

• Aubry Ozenne Road; • LA 96 (Terrace Highway) at Windy Hill Ranch.

The 1600 block of Duchamp Road also was temporarily closed due to a stalled vehicle.
