Breaux Bridge – Cecilia and Breaux Bridge High qualified a bevy of athletes for the Class 4A Region 2 outdoor track and field meet in Brusly after their performances at the District 5-4A meet in Breaux Bridge this past Wednesday.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for regionals. Region 2 includes teams from districts 4, 5 and 6 will compete at the regional meet, which was scheduled today. Field events started at 1 p.m. with running events set to start at 5:45 p.m.
St. Martinville also qualified athletes for the Class 3A Region 2 meet that was held Monday at McNeese State University in Lake Charles. Teams from districts 3, 5 and 6 competed at the meet.
District 5-4A Breaux Bridge qualified for 21 individual slots and eight relay team entries at the District 5-4A meet held at BBHS.
The Tigers got 1-2 finish in the boys’ 400, 800 and 1,600 meter races.
Jaboryan John won the 400 in 49.67 seconds and Ja’Kyron Wallace was second in 50.75.
Christian Camacho won the 800 in 2:06.95 and Ethan Comb was second in 2:08.24.
Camacho won the 1600 (4:67..49) and teammate Patrick Godeaux was second (4:58.58).
The Tigers also finished 1-3 in the 3,200, the pole vault and the javelin.
Camacho won the 3,200 in 11:01.82 and Godeaux was third in 11:51.41.
Josiah Armentor won the pole vault at 10 feet and Gentry Blanchard was third at 8 feet.
Kaleb Theriot won the javelin at 152 feet, 9 inches and Gavin Lasseigne was second at 142-5.
Other top-four individual finishers for BBHS who qualified for the boys’ regionals were Jaboryan John, third in the 200-meter dash (22.58 seconds); Nelson Borel, fourth in the high jump (5-8); Jaden Broussard, fourth in the triple jump (39-0 3/4); William Kays, fourth in the discus (93-10); and Kaleb Theriot, fourth in the shot put (35-7).
Breaux Bridge qualified in the four relay events, winning the 4x800 in 9:01.52, finishing second in the 4x200 (1:33.46) and the 4x400 (3:28.49) and third in the 4x100 (45.90).
Breaux Bridge claimed one first-place finish in the girls’ events with Bailey Robert winning the pole vault at 7 feet, 6 inches.
Other BBHS girls qualifying for regionals were Katlyn Nickens, third in the 1,600 (6:51.03); Alaycea Landry, third in the high jump (3-10); and Sophie Dore, fourth in the javelin (71-10).
All four BBHS girls’ relay teams also qualified for regionals with the 4x400 team second in 4:36.69. The remaining teams each finished third with the 4x100 team finishing in 56.89, the 4x200 team in 1:53.76 and the 4x800 team in 12:53.40.
Cecilia High girls placed in the top four 27 times to qualify for regionals, with the boys qualifying in the top four 24 times.
The Lady Bulldogs finished first and second in six events.
Olivia Chavis won the 800 in 2:51.96 with Brailey Brasseaux second in 2:57.33.
Caydah Hardy won the girls’ 1,600 (6:27.74) and the 3,200 (14:11.17) and Kali Robin was second in the 1,600 (6:39.86) and the 3,200 (15:27.04).
London Thi won the discus (126 feet, 2 inches), the javelin (92-9) and the discus (37-4) for the Lady Bulldogs.
Layla McGee was second in the discus (112-9 1/2), Megan Girod was second in the javelin (81-9) and Kassi Martin was second in the shot put (33-3).
CHS also got a win in the girls’ pole vault from Izabella Johnson at 7 feet, 6 inches.
Synae Howard finished second in the 100-meter hurdles for CHS in 17.20. Nikkie Devillier was second in the 300 hurdles in 51.63.
Jayla Rossyion was second in the 400 (1:02.93) and Kirsten Hamilton was third (1:03.54).
Da’Lenza Williams was third in the 200-meter dash (27.72) and Lundyn Girard was fourth (28.37).
Laney Hill finished third in the long jump (15-6 1/2) and the triple jump (30-3). Lelani Savoy was fourth in the triple jump at 20-1.
Asia Batiste finished fourth in the 100 (13.24) for Cecilia.
The Lady Bulldogs won the 4x400 (4:20.90) and the 4x800 (12:01.95) and were second in the 4x100 (51.73) and the 4x200 (1:50.19).
The Bulldogs placed first and second in the boys’ long jump and discus and first and third in the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, the shot put and the triple jump.
Ellis Stewart won the long jump at 22 feet, 2 3/4 inches and Jermaine Davis was second at 21-5 1/2.
Corey Sassau won the discus at 124-5 and Kade Primeaux was second at 105-11 1/4.
Braylon Calais won the 110 hurdles in 15.55 seconds and Brent Gordon Jr. was third in 155.76. Gordon won the 300 hurdles in 39.83 and Calais was third in 40.53.
Davis won the triple jump at 45 feet and Jayden Lewis was third at 40-8 1/2.
Sassau also won the shot put at 44-6 and Hayden Heard was third at 35-10.
Other top-four individual finishers for the CHS boys were Gavin Guidry, second in the 3,200 (11:02.51) and third in the 1,600 (4:59.08); Jayden Lewis, second in the high jump (5-10); Lee Landry, third in the 400 (50.93 seconds); Isaiah Greene, third in the 800 (2:13.49); Shaquille Sanders, fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.48) and the 200-meter dash (23.40); and Nathan Macon, fourth in the javelin (142-1).
The Bulldogs won three of the boys’ relays and placed second in the fourth.
Cecilia won the 4x100 (43.30), the 4x200 (1:30.24) and the 4x400 (3:26.68) and was second in the 4x800 (9:49.01).
District 5-3A Kaplan – In the District 5-3A meet held April 22 at Kaplan High School, St. Martinville qualified athletes for the regional meet in eight boys’ events and four girls’ events.
The Tigers got firstplace finishes from Skylar Frelix in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and Tylen Benjamin in the triple jump (44-1).
Makharee Narcisse qualified for regionals with second-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (16.10 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (42.66).
Benjamin also finished third in the long jump (19-8).
SMSH qualified for regionals with a second- place finish in the 4x200 relay (1:33.97) and fourth-place finishes in the 4x100 (45.23) and the 4x400 (4:04.42).
Alivia Joseph placed third in the long jump for the Lady Tigers at 15-9 and fourth in the high jump (4-8) to qualify in both events.
The SMSH 4x200 girls’ relay team also placed fourth in 1:56.48.
