St. Martin Parish Clerk of Court Laura Blanchard was the guest speaker for the Beta Rho meeting held on April 14th at the home of hostess and program leader Bobbie Theriot.
Blanchard presented a program on How Well Do You Know Your Parish? Parish residents elected Blanchard in 2024 and she has served the clerk’s office for 42 years. Blanchard explained to members the business of the clerk’s office is to maintain records of all case filings, proceedings and judgements related to civil cases in the parish.
Members learned of the various departments: criminal, elections, juvenile and non-support, marriage licenses, passports, civil cost and filing, recording, copy and research, jury duty, mortgage and birth and death and how each is vital to the clerk’s office.
Blanchard gave an update on proposed voting machines and salary adjustments for Commissioners in Charge and Commissioners.
Members agreed the clerk’s office is a vital government office and are fortunate to have a dedicated public servant working for the needs of our parish.
President Lynnie Bienvenu conducted the business meeting following the presentation. Members were called on to report on ongoing activities.
Founder’s Day chair Arleen Oubre announced the annual event will be held on April 28 at El Corazon Restaurant.
Program chair Bobbie Theriot announced members will present a program on Health: Establishing Mental and Physical Good Health Goals at the April 28 meeting.
Adopted Family chair Shirley Fuselier announced the chapter continues to support a local family monthly.
Senior Girl Service chair Bobbie Theriot announced the chapter will honor a student with the Hattie B. Maraist Senior Girl Award at St. Martinville High School in May.
The Floating basket gift was presented to President Lynnie Bienvenu by Shirley Fuselier.
