School board renews superintendent’s contract

The St. Martin Parish School Board voted to renew Superintendent Frederick Wiltz's contract for two years at its regular meeting this past Wednesday.

The board considered extending the contract for a year but opted for the two-year renewal.

The school board also discussed the pay schedule for non-certified teachers at its Finance Committee meeting.

The board voted to give non-certified teachers credit for one year of work experience for every two years they've worked, going forward. The original proposal was one year for every five years worked.

Uncertified teachers with 10 years experience in the classroom who are hired in St. Martin Parish would be paid on the scale for a non-certified teacher with five years experience, for example. Once certification is completed, the teachers will be paid for their full years of experience.

The superintendent said the policy is not retroactive but is from this point forward.
