Velma Guidry Degatur

Breaux Bridge – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2019, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Velma Guidry Degatur, 81, who passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019, at her residence.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Rev. Stephen Pellessier officiated at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures were read by Dr. Kate Degatur. Gift Bearers were Kallie Degatur and Emily Hundley.
Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
As a pastime, Velma enjoyed reading, playing with her puppy, Toto, working in her yard, and spending time with her family. She will be fondly remembered for the love she had for her family and how meticulous she was about maintaining her beautiful yard.
She is survived by her loving children, Dr. Warren J. Degatur Jr. and wife Debbie, and Dona Degatur Richard, all of Breaux Bridge; her grandchildren, Dr. Ben Degatur and wife Jennifer, Charles Degatur and wife Savri, Rocky Richard, Emily Hundley and husband Erik, Kallie Degatur, and Dr. Kate Degatur; her great-grandchildren, Caroline Degatur, Luke Degatur, Charlotte Degatur and Jane Degatur; her brothers, Richard Harris Guidry and wife Charlene of Butte La Rose, Raymond Guidry and wife Barbara of Augusta, Ga., and Patrick Guidry and wife Lynda of Hessmer; and her sisters, Sr. Sophie Ann Guidry, MHS, of Lafayette, Louella Blanchard of Breaux Bridge and Dorothy Patin and husband Perry of Breaux Bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren J. Degatur Sr.; her parents, Harris Joseph Guidry and Lucy Webre Guidry; and her in-laws, Alberie and Anna Castille Degeyter.
Pallbearers were her grandsons Dr. Ben Degatur, Charles Degatur and Rocky Richard, and her brothers Richard Harris Guidry, Raymond Guidry and Patrick Guidry.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
