Russell J. ‘Whoopie’ Angelle

Cecilia – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Russell J. Angelle, 73, who passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and continued Monday at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Rev. Austin Leger officiated at the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
Russell, better known as “Whoopie,” was born in Breaux Bridge to the late Joseph and Eula Benoit Angelle. He worked in the oil field for over 30 years before working on the river boats for the next 10 years. “Whoopie” enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, camping, hunting, fishing, playing the snare drum, and hanging out with friends.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his kind heart. You never knew if he was being serious or playing a joke. “Whoopie” will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 56 years, Maxlene Theriot Angelle; his sons, Jody Angelle and companion Kathy, and Patrick Angelle and wife Wendy; his daughters, Telicia “Lisa” Baker, and Emily Angelle and fiancé Scott; his sister, Sally Angelle; his grandchildren, Natalie Frederick and spouse Lance, Denton Angelle, Leland Baker, and Molly Angelle; and his great-grandchild, Aubree Frederick.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph “Putsie” Angelle; his mother, Eula Benoit Angelle; his brother, Danny Angelle; and his son-in-law, Martin “Mert” Baker.
Pallbearers were Jody Angelle, Patrick Angelle, Denton Angelle, Scott Stelly, Lance Frederick and Dale Theriot.
Honorary pallbearer will be Leland Baker.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia was in charge of arrangements.
