Broussard – Memorial Services celebrating the life of Mr. Richard Bernard Simon Sr., 65, will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017, in the Chapel of Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Road, Broussard. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1 p.m. until time of services at 3 p.m.
Richard Bernard (Mr. Ca Ca) Simon Sr. was born on October 3, 1951. He was the sixth child of Douglas “Earl” Simon and Leona “Mother” Soloman Simon. He went to live in Detroit, Michigan at the age of six and stayed until he was 14. He graduated from Adam Carlson School in St. Martinville. Richard was a hard worker who worked a variety of jobs. Later in life, he furthered his education and was employed as a Water Maintenance Operator, which he loved. He enjoyed dressing in his “Sunday Best” and socializing with family and friends.
In his passing he leaves to forever mourn his wife of six years, Caroline Simon; three sons, Richard “Sing” Simon Jr., Lamont Marshall and Christopher Batiste, all of St. Martinville; two daughters, Rochelle Simon (Ronnie Celestine) of New Iberia, and Lakisha Simon (Rusty Jean Lewis) of St. Martinville; five brothers, Douglas “Sonny” Simon (Bridget) of Abbeville, James Allen Simon (Adeline) of St. Martinville, Phillip Simon (Patricia) of New Iberia, Thaddeus Simon (Gail) of St. Martinville, and Elmer Paul (Gina) of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Paulette Cormier of Baton Rouge; and a half brother, Glen Robertson (Claudette).
He also leaves behind his best friends, Michael Batiste, Scobby Jones and Leon; his mother-in-law, Alice Alexander; three sisters-in-law, Cathy Charles (Darrell), Mary Stagg (Jerry) and Anna Randle (Marichal); and two brothers-in-law, Darrell Alexander (Helen) and Joseph Alexander; 13 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Douglas, and his mother, Leona Mae Simon; brothers, Stephen “Ponchay” Simon, Alfred “Tebobba” Simon and Elton “Doc” Simon; a sister, Mary “Nellie” Jean Batiste; and his father-in-law, Clifton Alexander.
