Powleta Leon Solomon

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Powleta Leon Solomon, 90, who passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed by The Legion of Mary at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Rev. Darrell Kelly, S.V.D., will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Affectionately known as “Ms. Polly,” she worked as the head cook at Beno’s Restaurant in St. Martinville until her retirement in 1991.
Powleta devoted her entire life to her husband, children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a quiet, loving and caring person who spent much of her time praying the Rosary and working cross-word puzzles.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Calhoun and husband Walter, and Gloria Fiest and husband Shelton; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Philomene Williams of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, George Solomon Sr.; her son, George Solomon Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Orphe Solomon; a great-grandchild, Ashton Calhoun; her parents, Joseph and Rose Agnes Lasseigne Leon; her brothers, Paul Leon, Broussard Leon and Antoine Leon; and her sisters, Salen L. Champ, Mary L. Lee, Theresa Leon and Alice L. Mason.
Pallbearers will be Walter Ray Calhoun Jr., Marcus Mandale Calhoun, Emanuel Solomon, Christopher Fiest Jr., Charlie Lee and Allen Simon.
