Odile Castania Barras

Catahoula – A Funeral Mass was conducted for Odile Castania Barras, age 66, at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Fabre officiating. Interment followed at St. Michael’s Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Visitation took place at the Dion Hall in Catahoula on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with the rosary at 7 p.m. The Dion Hall reopened on Friday at 6 a.m. until service time.
A native of St. Martin Parish and resident of Catahoula, Mrs. Barras passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at her residence.
Mrs. Odile was known by many as a “Jack of all trades” who enjoyed woodworking and gardening, not to mention could fix anything around the house. She had a heart of gold and affectionately took on a mother role to numerous extended family friends whom she enjoyed cooking for and spending time with. She also enjoyed crafting, sewing and going to the casino.
She is survived by one son, David “DD” Barras and wife Angie; four daughters, Kelly Barras Laviolette and husband Troy, Cari Barras Theriot and husband Brady, Candy Barras and Kimberly Barras Scott and husband Joel, all of Catahoula; nine grandchildren, Maddi Laviolette and fiancé Brookes Richard, Justin Laviolette, Cassidy Barras, Drake Barras, Morgan Theriot, Brody Theriot, Jancy Barras, Gabrielle Scott and Olivia Odile Scott; her loving companion, Bob Faucheaux of Catahoula; two sisters, Catherine Butler and Charlie and Verlean Bellfy, both of Breaux Bridge; and Godchildren, Lee Chiasson and Dana Bellfy Latiolais.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson “Cooney” Barras; parents, Cecil and Anna Lou Theriot Castania Sr.; one brother, Cecil “CJ” Castania Jr.; and one sister, Norma Chiasson.
Pallbearers were Lee Chiasson, Brody Theriot, Joel Scott, Brady Theriot, Justin Laviolette and Brookes Richard. David “DD” Barras, Bob Facheaux, Drake Barras and Troy Laviolette served as honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank New Iberia Manor North, Post-Acute Medical and Heart of Hospice for their care during this difficult time.
