Melvin Joseph Barras

Breaux Bridge – A Funeral Service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home for Melvin Joseph Barras, 86, who passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017, at St. Martin Hospital.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
A rosary was prayed at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Deacon Marcel “Butch” Hebert officiate d at the Funeral Service. Scripture were read by Gina H. Theall and Brooke H. Richard.
Interment followed at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Melvin loved working in his yard and garden. Providing home grown vegetables for his family and friends brought him joy. He loved his family and was proud of being married to the love of his life, Betty of 63 wonderful years. He was extremely proud of his grandsons. He also enjoyed his morning coffee with his buddies that he had done for years.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 63 years, Betty Jane Barras; his son, David Barras and companion Sherry Huval of Breaux Bridge; his daughter, Melissa B. Trahan and husband Jean of Scott; his grandchildren, Austin and Alan Trahan of Scott; his sister, Shirley Dupuis; and his god-daughter, Tracy Huval of Cecilia and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Barras; his mother, Judith Barras; his brothers, Wesley Barras and Dorsey Barras; and his sister, Diane Perkins.
Pallbearers were David Barras, Austin Trahan, Alan Trahan, Jean Trahan, L.J. Dupuis and Luke Dupuis.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
