Martin “Buddy” Wiltz Jr. was a lifelong resident of St. Martinville, and he was a strong advocate of education. After graduating from high school, Buddy attended Southwest Louisiana Institute (SLI) where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Education. Subsequently, he obtained his master’s degree from Southern University. Martin was a teacher for the St. Martin Parish School System. He taught Social Studies and Physical Education for 34 years until his retirement in 1994. Martin, or “Coach”, as many in the community knew him, had a passion for helping others. During his free time, he enjoyed his time as a referee for high school basketball games. He taught Adult Education, Driver’s Education, and oversaw the youth summer program for many years. After his retirement, he was inspirational in helping his son start his postal contract business, DAW Trucking. He also worked alongside his son until 2004. Buddy’s love for his children and grandchildren was evident in his smile whenever he saw them. His words of wisdom have carried them through their life’s difficulties. His many years, as an educator, has helped to mold so many lives. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
