Kathryn Simon Monnin

New Iberia – Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church for Kathryn Simon Monnin, 81, who passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, in Broussard.
Entombment will follow in the St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, 130 N. Richelieu Circle, in New Iberia, on Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m.
A native of St. Martinville, Mrs. Monnin was born on October 25, 1936, to the late Judge James D. Simon and Eloise Stone Simon. She retired from Texaco Inc. after 33 years of services, and had previously worked for Pelican Creamery in New Iberia. Mrs. Monnin was a paralegal for the Glenn Armentor Law Firm in Lafayette, and also in sales for the Daily Iberian for 10 years.
Mrs. Monnin was past chairman of the March of Dimes for St. Martin Parish, and was a member of the Lions Club and the Jaycee Jaynes of St. Martinville. She served 10 years as president of the Humane Society in Iberia Parish, and her hobbies included reading, dancing, camping, cooking, and traveling. Mrs. Monnin loved her family, her church, her pets, and helping as a volunteer for the needy.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Paul Monnin of New Iberia; daughters, Gwendolyn Barrilleaux LeBlanc and husband Larry of Plaquemine, Amy Elkins and husband Ken of Sunset, and Marcelle Wendland and husband Fred of Austin, Texas; son, James D. Barrilleaux of New Iberia; sister, Eloise Simon Bryant of Broussard; grandchildren, Steve Simmons Jr. and wife Destiny, Brandon Darby and spouse Jeanie, Nicholas Barrilleaux and fiancé Amy Trahan, Matthew Barrilleaux and Claire Elkins; great-grandchildren, Laila Simmons, Jessie Simmons, Cannon Wendland, Lindy Wendland, Gus Wendland, Isabella Wendland, Noah Barrilleaux, Lyla Barrilleaux, Hunter Darby, Hailey Darby and Fischer Darby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Snell.
