Joseph ‘JD’ Dudley Dwyer

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Joseph “JD” Dudley Dwyer, 91, who passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and continued on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Rev. Rusty P. Richard officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Kristen O’Connor and Luke Romero. Gift bearers were his grandchildren.
Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Being the pillar of the family, Mr. Dwyer loved and cherished his family dearly, especially the times spent with the ones he loved. Known by many as a jokester, “JD” enjoyed listening to Cajun and country music, discussing politics and football, spending time outside in his garden, doing woodwork, tinkering with different gadgets, and had a great love for the equestrian.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 69 years, Clara Trahan Dwyer of St. Martinville; daughters, Yvonne Romero and husband Dorsay Jr. of St. Martinville, Juanita Williamson and husband Tom of Sugar Land, Texas, and Suzanne St. Pierre and husband Jimmy of St. Martinville; son, William “Billy” Dwyer and wife Andrea of St. Martinville; sister, Myrtle Angelle and husband Pedro Sr. of Breaux Bridge; grandchildren, Luke Romero and spouse Lauren, Kristen O’Connor and spouse Patrick, Joshua St. Pierre and fiancée Stephanie, John Williamson, Adam Dwyer, Chase Kolkman, Joshua Bonin, and Jeannelle Bonin; great-grandchildren, Parker O’Connor, Levi Romero and Logan O’Connor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Adam “Jack” Dwyer; mother, Leoda Champagne Dwyer; and brothers, Bob William Dwyer and Ward James Dwyer.
Pallbearers were Roland Trahan, Luke Romero, Dorsay Romero, Joshua St. Pierre, Jimmy St. Pierre, John Williamson, Tom Williamson and Adam Dwyer.
Family would like to give special thanks to the 5th floor nursing staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center for their love and compassion to Mr. Dwyer and his family.
