James Roy Maraist

St. Martinville – A Memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks for James Roy Maraist, 90, who passed away at his home on Monday, December 3, 2018.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks from 120 .p.m until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Rev. Nicholas DuPré will officiate at the Memorial Mass. Readers will be Charles Maraist, Steven Maraist and Douglas Maraist. Gift Bearers will be Dianne M. Judice, Valerie M. Doré, Frances M. Henson and Laurel M. Eggart.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Mr. Maraist was a veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army while serving in the Medical Corps. He enjoyed reading, cooking, and visiting with his family. He was a great believer in family and family values, and he never wavered, in good times or bad, from his duties as the patriarch and guiding star of the “Maraist Clan.”
Mr. Maraist will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but through the grace of God, his memory will be cherished and serve as an example to all to what it means to be a husband, father and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Anita Broussard Maraist; sons, Charles Maraist (Regina), Steven Maraist (Fay) and Douglas Maraist (Judy); daughters, Dianne M. Judice (Tracy), Valerie M. Doré (Danny), Frances M. Henson (Russell) and Laurel M. Eggart (Joel); 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin C. Maraist Sr.; mother, Emily Guilbeau Maraist; brother, Reverend Martin C. Maraist Jr.; sister, Elise Maraist Reines; and daughter-in-law, Lillian Guidry Maraist.
Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Maraist’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, or the American Heart Association.
