Claire Cecelia Durand Haydel

St. Martinville – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Claire Cecelia Durand Haydel, 91, who passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Fr. Rusty P. Richard officiated at the Funeral Mass.
Interment followed at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Claire was a graduate of Mercy High School. After graduation she attended SLU and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Houston.
Claire loved her children, but adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an RN for 50 years. She worked at St. Martin Infirmary, Lourdes, St. Martin Nursing Home and Iberia General.
She retired from Lafayette General after 20 years. She always said that being a nurse was a calling, not a profession. She was a kind person, who rarely had anything bad to say about anyone.
She will always be deeply missed by her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Michele Haydel Buchholz and husband Todd of Cypress, Texas, and Mary Teresa (Terri) Haydel Ryder and husband Steve of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Mark Haydel and wife Judy of Breaux Bridge, Justin Haydel Jr. and wife Susie of St. Gabriel, and Scott Haydel and wife Becky of Youngsville; grandchildren, Courtney Grauvogl, Aimee Snyder, Brandon Buchholz, Ryan, Kyle and Kodi Haydel, Zachary Latiolais, Melisa and Brighton Heard, Claire and Jamie Haydel, Megan Haydel, Paxton Haydel, and Christopher, Timmy and Nicholas Ryder; great-grandchildren, Claire, Sophia and Luke Grauvogl, Eron Cox, Heagan Arnold, Parish Haydel, Lily Latiolais, Payton, MacKenzie and Mia Clay, Adaline Ryder and Scott Ryder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberley Haydel Latiolais; her parents, Albert and Louisiana de Blanc Durand; brothers, Albert (Bootie) Durand, Francis Durand, Gerard Durand and Allen Durand; and sisters, Teresa Patin, Tita Andrepont, Stephanie Landry, Betty Durand and Catherine Champagne.
Pallbearers were Christopher Ryder, Nicholas Ryder, Ryan Haydel, Eron Cox, Steve Ryder and Todd Buchholz.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
