Catherine Culotta Guidry

Lafayette – An 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine Culotta Guidry, 91, was held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, in St. Genevieve Catholic Church who died on Monday afternoon, September 4, 2017, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Entombment was at Calvary Mausoleum in Lafayette.
Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, conducted the funeral services. Musical selections, “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “Ave Maria,” Isaiah 49” and “On Eagles’ Wings,” were performed by Stephanie Hoffpauir, Soloist and Organist. Lector for the Mass was Abigail Guidry and Giftbearers were Mrs. Guidry’s two daughters, Anne Guidry and Geralyn Ashley.
To cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Benoit Guidry of Lafayette; two daughters, Anne Guidry of Lafayette and Geralyn Ashley and her husband Donnie of Cecilia; three sons, Joseph Guidry, Gerard Guidry and his wife Phyllis, and Gerald Guidry all of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Matthew Ashley, Nicholas Ashley, Joshua Ashley and Benjamin Guidry and Abigail Guidry; one great-grandchild, Nova Ashley; and one sister, Marietta Culotta and husband Frank of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Maria M. Culotta; two sisters, Rosa Culotta and Sarah M. Culotta; and a brother, Philip Culotta and wife Bonnie.
A native and resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for most 26 years, Catherine was a Parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church. She was employed by the St. Martin Parish School Board as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor for 44 years. She was a former member of American Home Economics Association and Louisiana Home Economics Association and Louisiana Guidance Counselor’s Association.
Her long time hobbies included gardening, photography, pokeno and going to the casinos. She especially enjoyed cooking Sunday meals for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all. Catherine will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Serving as Pallbearers for Catherine Guidry were Joseph Guidry, Gerard Guidry, Gerald Guidry, Matthew Ashley, Benjamin Guidry, Nicholas Ashley, Joshua Ashley and Donnie Ashley.
Honorary Pallbearers were Frank Culotta Jr., David Culotta, Duane Culotta and Edward LaFoe.
Visitation was observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. until time of funeral Mass.
A Rosary was prayed for the soul of Catherine Guidry by Brady LeBlanc at 6 p.m. in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
