Billy James Serrette

St. Martinville – Billy James Serrette, a native of Breaux Bridge and longtime resident of St. Martinville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 18, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 62.
Billy was born August 2, 1957 to the late Anatole James Serrette and the late Ida Mae McGee Serrette.
In his early years Billy lived in Australia with his family where he worked on a ranch taming horses. After moving back to the states, he joined the United States Marines and served his country during the Vietnam War. Billy worked most of his life in the oilfield as a Seismic Consultant, a career that brought him to many destinations throughout the world. No matter the destination, Billy would leave a testament of love to his wife Paula by carving “Billy loves Paula” in a tree many that can still be seen today.
Outside of his work, Billy had several pastimes. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed being out in nature. Whether it was hunting or fishing with family, tending to his garden or chickens, or just relaxing on the patio, Billy enjoyed that time.
Those who knew Billy, knew of his passion for music and playing guitar. He played in a band in his earlier years, but mostly played for enjoyment and relaxation, and to entertain his family.
Above all, his greatest achievement was his marriage to his best friend Paula, raising a beautiful family of three children and three granddaughters that he spoiled lovingly.
Billy leaves a legacy of love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Rest well Billy. Until we meet again.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 41 years, Paula Citty Serrette; his three children, Crystal Serrette Gauthier and husband Harvey, Kenneth Serrette and Calvin Serrette and wife Sarah; his three granddaughters, whom he adored, Tana Gauthier, Amelie Serrette and Isabelle Serrette; his sisters and brothers, Linda Serrette, Laura Hebert, Michael Serrette and Mitchell Guidry; and his stepmother, Lorraine Serrette.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Guidry.
It was Billy’s wish that his body be donated and studied for the advancement of medical research. Therefore, his family will have a Celebration of Life Gathering on Saturday September 28, 2019, at Evangeline Funeral Home of St. Martinville from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A reception will be held afterward for everyone to enjoy and continue sharing memories of Billy.
