Benoit Guidry

Lafayette – A 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 24, 2018, in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette for Benoit Guidry, 94. With loved ones at his side, Benoit died Tuesday morning, March 20, 2018, at his residence in Lafayette.
Entombment was in Calvary Mausoleum in Lafayette.
Reverend Brian Taylor, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, served as Celebrant and conducted the funeral services. Musical selections “On Eagles’ Wings,” “Psalm 23,” “Be Not Afraid,” “Notre Pere,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “You Are Mine,” were performed by Jodi Bollich, Organist and Soloist. Lector for the Mass was Abigail Guidry. Anne Guidry and Geralyn Ashley served as Giftbearers.
Cherishing the memory of Benoit Guidry are two daughters, Anne Guidry of Lafayette and Geralyn Ashley and her husband Donnie of Cecilia; three sons, Joseph Guidry, Gerard Guidry and his wife Phyllis, and Gerald Guidry, all of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Matthew Ashley, Nicholas Ashley, Joshua Ashley, Benjamin Guidry and Abigail Guidry; one great-grandchild, Nova Ashley; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marietta and Frank Culotta Sr.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine Culotta Guidry on September 4, 2017; parents, Maurice and Leota Zimmerman Guidry; brother, Bennett Guidry; sister and brother-in-law, Gersie and Dalton Guidry; brother-in-law, Philip Culotta and spouse Bonnie B. Culotta; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Culotta and Sarah Culotta; two nieces, Mary Ann Guidry and Elaine Cook; and two great nieces, Deborah Huval and Laura Aucoin.
A Breaux Bridge native and a resident of Lafayette for the past 26 years, Benoit Guidry was an educator with the St. Martin Parish School Board from February 2, 1948, to June 30, 1986, and was an Advisor to the Cecilia Sr. High School FFA Organization. A veteran of the U.S. Army from March 1943 to March 1946, he proudly served his Country in World War II. He was with the 798th Anti-Aircraft Auxiliary Battalion in the European Theatre of Operations.
Benoit loved the outdoors, especially gardening. As a pasttime, he also enjoyed scrapbooking, reading and crossword puzzles. He was a devout Catholic and a Parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church. He truly loved his family and every minute he was able to spend with them.
A loving husband, son, father, grandfather and brother, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers were Joseph Guidry, Gerard Guidry, Gerald Guidry, Matthew Ashley, Benjamin Guidry, Nicholas Ashley, Joshua Ashley and Donnie Ashley.
Honorary Pallbearers were Howard Guidry, Duane Huval, Tom Belfry, Alton Brown Jr., Adam Trahan, Frank Culotta, Sr., Frank Culotta, Jr., David Culotta, Duane Culotta, Kenneth Culotta and Edward LaFoe.
Visitation was observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Friday, March 23, 2018, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and continued Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 8 a.m. until time of service.
A Rosary was prayed by Brady LeBlanc for the soul of Benoit Guidry Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
